Bead Up: Contest Winner

When Christyn sent me an email with a link to her Esty shop, I was blown away by her creativity and talent. She truly has a gift for jewelry making and I was so excited when she agreed to donate a piece to my readers.

Thank you so much to all of you that picked your favorite Bead Up item and entered, and a huge hug and kiss to all of you who went to her shop and made a purchase. Your support for her means so much to me!

Inspiration – it’s all around you!

I grew up in a small Ohio city. To be frank, I never cared for the rural, farm-like, grey town. Though I always knew I wanted to get away from the Midwest, never in my life did I imagine that I would be living in California. Not only that, but I never really realized the vastness of natural beauty until I moved to California. It’s easy to find inspiration here. When I lived in San Francisco my dorm overlooked the Golden Gate bridge and the San Francisco sky-line. Now, living in Los Angeles, I drive through mountains and cities on a daily basis and am confronted with cultural and geographical differences everywhere I look. When I to other countries my camera never stops taking pictures of what I see as exotic and majestic, fascinated that the natives find it all commonplace.

After seeing such inspiring places, I wasn’t looking forward to going back to Ohio or Kentucky, my alma matter, for the first time after leaving. But instead of seeing the grey, boring landscape of my childhood, my eyes suddenly had a new appreciate for an equivalent, albeit different, beauty of what I always saw as normal.

Here are some examples of photos I have taken of the beauty I have found in both the “grey” and also the glamorous, and how I have transformed their inspirations into jewelry:

It doesn’t matter where we are or what resources we do or do not have around us. What matters, and what makes a difference, is the lenses of the eyes of which we look at the world around us.

Where do you find your inspiration? Look around! It’s everywhere!

Thanks for letting me be part of your day 🙂

My Inbox: Cut and Paste

It’s seems like so many of my day to day life activities revolve around email: work, Zumba, dinner plans, catching up. Between Outlook, my personal email, blog email, Facebook and side job email account I’m checking inboxes left and right.

As the comments start to come it on my giveaway about how their inboxes are filled with cute, loving, dirty talking emails for people, I start to get a little jealous. Maybe even bitter, because I don’t have this at all. On occasion I may get caught in a series of flirtatious emails, but none worth saving.

A few weekends ago I got excited because I got an email via Facebook from one of the cute shirtless volleyball players that read:

Hey if you go out tonight give me a call. l have some buddies in town form NY so we’ll be uptown. Come out and show me some dance moves ;0)

This message was followed up by a sweet wall post and a text or two. Later that week grabbed drinks and I can’t say it was a dream date or that I got butterflies, but I was excited to be back in the game and feel like someone was pursuing me. My friends were excited that I was starting to let go of my feelings for my winter romance and sheared my date story with one of their co-workers.

“What was his name again?’, cute co-worker girl asked. “That sounds so familiar…”

“Hot Shirtless Volleyball Man*”, E replied.

“Ummm…he’s been sending me the SAME messages!” exclaimed cute co-worker girl.

Now I know that there are no laws that say that single men can not email more than one girl at a time…but there should be laws that state that these said girls can not be in the same cirlcecircle of friends! AND there should be rules that prohibit CUT and PASTE!

In his defense, he had no idea that we would know eachother. But it still feel like someone took a pin to my balloon…again.

*Name has been changed. 🙂

A Girl Can Dream

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had Dom tastes on an Andre’ budget. I got a few dream emails this week from my girls Brandy and Brookem planning these great vacations and parties that will never happen. I know I won’t be able to safari through Africa with Brandy, or BBQ on a deserted island with Brookem, but the mere planning was enough to brighten my day.Although these are hard economic times, I still dream of grand vacations and expensive shoes.

Here are a few things that I do to keep my dreams alive:

Shop online at Zappos, Nordstroms and Crate and Barrel. Fill my cart with all of the things I’d like to buy. Go to CHECK OUT, look at the total and close the window.

Try on the  shoes of the season  Bob Ellis that I will never purchase, the bag I’ve been lusting at Coach and my friends wedding rings…even if it’s bad luck.

Watch the delicious men roll in the sand play volleyball with sweat dripping down their 6 pack abs and pretend that they’re doing it for my enjoyment. Why did I never think of this before?

Hold some one’s baby until it poops or cries and then give it back!

Plan a dream vacation with my  girls. Or the wedding to the man I  don’t have because ever since I  saw Tiffany’s on the Southern Weddings I can’t stop thinking about it.

What do you dream about doing?

*PS- I promise I am not crazy and superficial, I just like to dream. I feel so blessed to have a job that I like and amazing friends and family.

My Favorite Things: ME!

No silly, not really me, but M. Ellen Designs! I’ve showed her cards before in this post.

I love sending and receiving mail. People don’t do it enough any more. Buying stationary almost gets me as excited as a new pair of shoes! I’m not even kidding.

Mary Ellen is a college sorority sister of mine and she has the most adorable line of greeting cards. I LOVE them! Her shop is filled with fun “catching up” note cards, “just checking in” flat cards, invitations and much more. All of her designs are customizable with names and monograms. I’ve ordered from her before and was so impressed with her quality and professionalism.

Her blog Mostly M. Ellen, is just as cute as her cards.

Mary Ellen  is so generous that she has graciously given me  2 sets of cards for me to give to you!

Here are the rules:

1. Go to M. Ellen’s Site and pick out your favorite card. This one is my favorite!

2. Leave me a comment and tell me which one you like the best.

3. You can get an extra entry if you put a link to this contest on your blog and an additional entry if you twitter or post in your Facebook Status about it. Just leave me an additional comment and let me know where to find you!

4. Get ANOTHER entry if you join M.Ellen’s Facebook Group! Same as before…leave me an additional comment and let me know you joined! (If you are a blogger, Facebook-er, Twitter-er and leave a comment you can have up to 4 entries!)

5. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Friday, March 13th!

6. You do not need a blog to enter, so non bloggers (old dance buddies and friends that I know lurk around here…now is your chance to come out of hiding!) I will ship the cards anywhere in North America, so Canadian bloggers you can play too!

Good Luck!!!

Daddy, I want a goose that lays golden eggs!

Just before Christmas, a good friend of mine called me with fantastic news: She had struck gold. Once upon a time, when she was born, someone purchased a bond in her name. As she matured, so did the bond. Now that it’s reached it’s full potential, she is getting $10,000! Just like that.

I was so excited for her when she called to tell me, but a part of me wished that I had a goose that laid golden eggs too!

This week another friend called me to tell me that perhaps my goose dreams had come true. Uncle Sam was going to give a tax free loan of $7500 to all first home buyers who purchased a new home after April! The catch was that you pay the loan back over the next 15 years in equal payments.

Of course my first thought was that I could have a pair or two of shoes like Tiffany

Or go on a fab vacation

Then reality hit that I could ultimately pay off my credit cards and save a bit for the dismal sales year that is wrecking my world. (And perhaps one new pair of shoes.)

As soon as I got home, I googled the info just to check it all out and make sure the rumors were true.

Low and behold, there is a Federal Housing Tax Credit if you purchased a home AFTER  April 9, 2008.  I closed on April 3rd.

Seriously…8940 minutes…144 hour…6 short days…not even one full week, is going to stand between me and the elimination of my credit card debt (and a new pair of CLs)?

WARNING to Uncle Sam: Stand back. I may need to punch someone in the face!

I guess you could say I’m still looking for my goose (and fabulous shoes that are on sale*).

*A special thanks to K. Dukes who let me in on the net-a-porter promo!
